113 615 houses sold in Turkey in January 2020

Home sales in Turkey increased by 55.8% in January 2020 compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 113 615. In residential sales, Istanbul houses had the highest share with 21 sales of 251 houses and 18.7%. According to the sales numbers, Istanbul was followed by Ankara homes with 11_989 residential sales and 10.6% share, followed by Izmir with 7 212 residential sales and 6.3% share. The provinces where the number of housing sales was low were Hakkari with 7 dwellings, Ardahan with 11 dwellings and Bayburt with 38 dwellings, respectively.


Mortgage-backed home sales stood at 42.237 in January 2020

In January 2020, mortgage-backed housing sales in Turkey increased by 546.1% compared to the same month of the previous year, to 42 237. The share of mortgage sales in total home sales was 37.2%. In mortgage sales, Istanbul ranked first with sales of 7 615 houses and 18.0% share. The province where mortgage sale was the least was Ardahan and Hakkari with 2 houses.


71 of 378 dwellings changed hands as a result of other types of sales

Other home sales increased by 7.5% in Turkey in January 2020 compared to the same month of the previous year, from 71 to 378. In other residential sales, Istanbul ranked first with 13 636 residential sales and 19.1% share. The share of other sales was 64.2% of the total residential sales in Istanbul. Ankara ranked second with sales of 6 759 other houses. Ankara was followed by holiday houses in Antalya with 4 198 residential sales. The province was Hakkari with 5 dwellings, where the sale of other dwellings was the least.


36.040 homes sold for first time in residential sales

The number of homes sold for the first time in Turkey increased by 16.1% in January 2020 compared to the same month of the previous year and was 36 040. Within total residential sales, the share of initial sales was 31.7%. In the first sales, Istanbul had the highest share with sales of 6 599 houses and 18.3%, while Istanbul was followed by Ankara with sales of 3 199 houses and Izmir with sales of 2 219 houses.


77.575 homes changed hands in second-hand housing sales

Second - hand home sales in Turkey increased by 85.2% in January 2020 compared to the same month of the previous year, to 77 575. Second - hand housing sales in Istanbul 14 652 housing sales and 18.9% share placed in the first place. The share of second-hand sales was 68.9% of the total residential sales in Istanbul. Ankara property ranked second with sales of 8 790 houses. Ankara was followed by Izmir with 4 993 housing sales.


Sales of 3.907 houses to foreigners took place in January 2020

Home sales to foreigners increased by 23.3% compared to the same month of the previous year and became 3 907. In the sales of houses to foreigners, Istanbul took the first place in January 2020 with 1,875 residential sales. Istanbul province was followed by Antalya with sales of 762 houses, Ankara with sales of 235 houses, Bursa with sales of 163 houses and Yalova with sales of 128 houses, respectively.


Most housing sales by country nationals were made to Iraqi citizens

In January, Iraqi citizens bought a total of 739 houses and property in Turkey. Iraq was followed by Iran with 678 dwellings, the Russian Federation with 254 dwellings, Afghanistan with 204 dwellings and Yemen with 142 dwellings, respectively.
